Our Story
A brief overview......
Christina and Leslie opened up for business in 1994.
The idea was simple - in one building would be housed fresh out of the kiln pottery and a wide variety of books with a local and Southern theme. This first site was on Ocracoke's School Road in the structure that used to house famed Ocracoke artist JoKo's old gallery, studio and tropical bird aviary.
After a couple of years the two businesses moved next door, to the Dezzie Bragg House, a beautiful old house built ~1898 that is a contributing structure to Ocracoke's Historic District.
From there the two businesses, Deepwater Pottery and Books to be Red, have flourished.
